Lego Cake

Jaden has been big into Lego's for awhile now.  When I found out we were going to get to celebrate his birthday together, I knew I wanted to make him a cake.  Catherine helped me find the directions/recipe for this one.

Jaden chose yellow cake.  First you bake a cake mix in a 9x13' pan.

Then you get your frosting ready.  The bettycrocker.com recipe said to use 2 containers of frosting.  I definitely had enough.  Mix them with whatever colors you want.  I wanted vibrant Lego colors, so I ended up using entire containers of food coloring for each.

Now, after waiting forever for the cake to cool, you cut it into 3 equal pieces.  Then, you cut one of those pieces in half.  You have 2 rectangle legos and 2 square legos now.  Put them in the freezer for about an hour and then you can do a quick layer of frosting........this helps with the crumbs.  I dipped my knife in hot water in between swipes of frosting.  Then the cake goes back in the freezer for an hour.

Take the pieces out and now it is time for the real frosting.  Do a nice, pretty layer.  To make the pegs of the Lego, cut a large marshmallow in half and frost each half.  This part is tricky and pretty messy.  Keep going, you are almost done!

I stacked mine together a little and Jaden really loved it.  For some reason those pictures won't download, so this will have to do :)
